ABSTRACT

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) widely exist in all organisms, the structures of which are usually extraordinarily conservative. They are also well-known stress proteins that are involved in response to physical, chemical and biological stresses. HSP70 is an important member of the HSPs family. In order to study the roles of amphibians HSP70 during infection, the cDNA sequence of Rana amurensis hsp70 family genes were cloned by homologous cloning method. The sequence characteristics, three-dimensional structure and genetic relationship of Ra-hsp70s were analyzed by bioinformatics methods. The expression profiles under bacterial infection were also analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR). Expression and localization of HSP70 protein were tested by immunohistochemical techniques. The results showed that three conservative tag sequences of HSP70 family, HSPA5, HSPA8 and HSPA13, were found in HSP70. Phylogenetic tree analysis indicated four members are distributed in four different branches, and members with the same subcellular localization motif are distributed in the same branch. The relative expression levels of the mRNA of four members were all significantly upregulated (P < 0.01) upon infection, but the time for up-regulating the expression levels were diverse in different tissues. The immunohistochemical analysis showed that HSP70 was expressed to different degrees in the cytoplasm of liver, kidney, skin and stomach tissue. The four members of Ra-hsp70 family have ability to respond bacterial infection to varying degrees. Therefore, it was proposed that they are involved in biological processes against pathogen and play different biological functions. The study provides a theoretical basis for functional studies of HSP70 gene in amphibians.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To investigate whether gas-trodin(GAS)plays a neuroprotective role by activating PI3K/Akt/BACH1 signaling axis to improve glycolytic func-tion.METHODS HT22 cells were treated with Aβ25-35 for 24 h to establish cell damage model.GAS pretreated HT22 cells for 2 h,and Akt agonist SC79,Akt inhibitor MK2206,PI3K inhibitor LY294002 were added 0.5 h before GAS treatment to detect their protective mecha-nisms.Pharmacodynamic research of GAS in this model were divided into six groups:control group,GAS group(GAS 10 μmol·L-1),model group(Aβ25-35 20 μmol·L-1),model +GAS 2.5,5 and 10 μ mol·L-1 group).Mecha-nism research of GAS in this model was divided into 6 groups:control group,Aβ25-35 20 μmol·L-1 group,Aβ25-35 20 μmol·L-1 + GAS 10 μmol·L-1 group,Aβ25-35 + SC79 group(Aβ25-35 20 μmol·L-1 +SC79 10 μmol·L-1),Aβ25-35+MK2206+GAS group(A β 25-35 20 μ mol·L-1 +MK2206 10 μmol·L-1+GAS 10 μmol·L-1),Aβ25-35+LY294002+GAS group(Aβ25-35 20 μmol·L-1+LY294002 10 μmol·L-1+GAS 10 μmol·L-1).Cell viability was detected by MTT,mor-phological changes of cells were observed by micro-scope,ATP content was detected by chemilumines-cence,and pyruvate(PA)content was detected by colo-rimetry.Western blotting was used to detect the protein levels of transcription factor BACH1,key glycolysis enzyme hexokinase(HK1)and PI3K/Akt signaling path-way related proteins PI3K,p-PI3K,Akt and p-Akt.RESULTS The results showed that compared with the control group, the cell morphology of HT22 cells damaged by Aβ25-35 was damaged, the number of cells decreased, the cell body became smaller, the number of dead cells increased, the cell survival rate,ATP and PA contents decreased significantly, and the protein expressions of p-PI3K,p-Akt,BACH1 and HK1 were significantly down-regulated.GAS treatmentcansignificantlyimprovethemor-phology of HT22 cells damaged by Aβ25-35,increase cell survival rate,ATP and PA contents, and up-regulate the expression of p-PI3K,p-Akt,BACH1 and HK1 proteins.SC79 also significantly increased cell survival rate,ATP content, protein expression of BACH1 and HK1.However,the above ameliorative effect of GAS on HT22 cell dam-age induced by Aβ25-35 was antagonized by LY294002 and MK2206.CONCLUSION GAS exerts a neuroprotec-tive effect on Aβ25-35-induced HT22 cell injury by improv-ing glycolytic function through activating PI3K/Akt/BACH1 signaling axis.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the cerebral infarct volume and the nerve fiber connectivity between cortical and neurogenesis-related regions in the mouse model of reperfusion after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) by 11.7 Tesla(11.7 T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Methods:MCAO models were established in SPF grade adult male C57BL/6 mice using the suture-occluded method.MRI scans were performed at 3 days before and 1 day after modeling.Infarct volumes were calculated, and nerve fiber tracking was performed on specific brain regions to analyze the nerve fiber number and the parameters of fractional anisotropy(FA), mean diffusivity(MD), axial diffusivity (AD)and radial diffusivity(RD). SPSS 26.0 was used for statistical analysis, and paired t test was used to compare the data before and after modeling. Results:(1) After MCAO-induced ischemia, the infarct volume was up to (35.11±17.57)mm 3, and the FA value of the infarct area was significantly reduced compared with that of before modeling( t=4.73, P<0.01). (2) At the anterior-posterior(AP): + 1.2 mm section, the results of fiber tracking showed that compared with before modeling, the number of fiber bundles originating from the dorsal horn of the lateral sub-ventricle zone(SVZ)to the cortex reduced ((92 584.20±14 751.00) vs (59 815.60±6 752.46), t=4.87, P<0.01), and the number of fiber bundles projected to the infarcted area reduced ((107 671.40±10 497.57) vs (61 658.60±10 178.21), t=6.43, P<0.01). FA, AD, MD, and RD values were all decreased in different degrees( t=3.38-6.43, all P<0.05). (3) At the AP: -3.8 mm section, the number of fiber bundles originating from the dorsal horn of the SVZ to the cortex decreased (after modeling(96 944.00±18 331.09), before modeling(58 767.80±16 445.25), t=2.99, P<0.05), and the values of FA, AD, MD and RD decreased after ischemia ( t=7.30, 5.05, 6.74, 4.13, all P<0.05). Conclusion:The ultra-high field strength of 11.7 T MRI can accurately detect the following results that the number of nerve fiber bundles from the SVZ to the cortex or infarct area are both significantly reduced, and diffusion tensor parameters are consistently changed in mice after 1 day of ischemia-reperfusion.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the types and distribution characteristics of elements in drinking water from endemic fluorosis areas with water improvement in Xi'an City, understand the relationship between fluoride and various elements, and conduct health risk assessment on potential high-risk elements. Methods:From May to June 2017, one endemic fluorosis area with water improvement (Gaoling District, Huyi District, Lintong District) was selected according to the northeast, the southwest and the due east directions of Xi'an City as the survey area. Sixteen endemic fluorosis villages were selected from each endemic area, and 2 water samples were collected from each endemic village to detect fluoride and 12 elements such as chromium, manganese, ferrum, copper, zinc, arsenic, selenium, molybdenum, cadmium, antimony, barium, and lead. Hygienic evaluation was conducted according to national standards, and the potential high-risk elements (arsenic, molybdenum) were assessed for health risk through the health risk assessment model recommended by the National Environmental Protection Agency of the United States. Results:The water samples from the endemic fluorosis areas in Xi'an City mainly contained seven elements: barium, ferrum, molybdenum, arsenic, zinc, manganese, and chromium. The content of copper and selenium was relatively low, while the content of cadmium, antimony, and lead was extremely low. The fluoride content in water samples from Gaoling District and Lintong District was relatively high, and the fluorine, arsenic, molybdenum elements was pairwise positively correlated ( P < 0.05). The molybdenum element in water samples from Lintong District exceeded 9.38% (3/32). The fluoride in the water samples of Huyi District was relatively low, and the arsenic, molybdenum elements was positively correlated ( r = 0.84, P < 0.001), and the arsenic element exceeded the standard by 25.00% (8/32). The main health risk of drinking water in endemic fluorosis areas with water improvement in Xi'an City was arsenic exposure, with children at a higher risk than adults, and the areas of Huyi District, Lintong District, and Gaoling District declined, the risk of cancer (CR) of Gaoling District was < 10 -4 and hazard quotient (HQ) was < 1. However, in the areas of Huyi District and Lintong District (except HQ of adults), there was a higher risk (CR > 10 -4, HQ > 1). Children in one endemic fluorosis village in Lintong District had a higher non carcinogenic risk of molybdenum (HQ > 1). Conclusions:The drinking water in endemic fluorosis areas with water improvement in Xi'an City mainly contains 7 elements, especially arsenic and molybdenum, which need to be regularly monitored. Some areas have high health risks of arsenic in water, and monitoring, management, and related epidemiological investigations need to be strengthened. At the same time, it is necessary to actively monitor other toxic and harmful substances that may be introduced during the water improvement process to prevent the occurrence of secondary health problems.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the value of CT texture analysis (CTTA) parameters in differential diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Methods:From May. 2020 to Oct. 2021, 110 patients with thyroid nodules in the background of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in the Radiology Department of Nanjing Integrated Hospital of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine were selected, and CTTA was performed. CTTA parameters (entropy value, peak state and skewness) were counted. The pathological diagnosis results were taken as the "gold standard". Statistical pathological examination results were used to compare the general clinical characteristics and CTTA parameters of benign and malignant thyroid nodules. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was used to analyze the diagnostic value of CTTA parameters for thyroid nodules. Results:According to the clinicopathological examination, 43 of 110 patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis were malignant, accounting for 39.09%. Among them, 22 were papillary carcinoma, 13 were follicular carcinoma, 6 were medullary carcinoma, and 2 were malignant lymphoma; 67 cases were benign, accounting for 60.91%, including 32 nodular goiters, 20 Hashimoto’s nodules, 8 thyroid adenomas, and 7 focal inflammation. The levels of TSH, irregular shape, blurry border and calcification in patients with malignant thyroid nodules were higher than those in patients with benign thyroid nodules ( t/ χ2=13.167, 18.364, 20.180,17.621, P<0.001). In the background of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, there was no significant difference in the peak and skewness of CTTA parameters between benign and malignant thyroid nodules ( t=1.633, 1.382, P=0.105, 0.170). The entropy value of patients with malignant thyroid nodules was higher than that of patients with benign thyroid nodules, and the difference was statistically significant ( t=9.862, P<0.001). ROC analysis showed that the cut-off value of entropy value for diagnosing benign and malignant thyroid nodules was 6.28, AUC value was 0.909, 95% CI was 0.839-0.955, sensitivity was 86.05% (37/43), and specificity was 88.06% (69/67) . Conclusion:CTTA parameters in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis patients with benign and malignant thyroid nodules are different, and CTTA parameters have certain diagnostic value for benign and malignant thyroid nodules.

ABSTRACT

Leptin receptor overlapping transcript (LepROT) plays multiple roles in the regulation of immune systems. However, very little information is available about the anti-infectious mechanisms of amphibians LepROT. In this study, the cDNA sequence of the Rana dybowskii LepROT gene was determined by using RT-PCR and bioinformatics analysis. Then, the Aeromonas hydrophila (Ah) and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) infected models of R. dybowskii was constructed to obtain histopathological characteristics. Constitutive expression of LepROT mRNA and NF-κB signaling pathway were detected by real-time quantitative PCR. The full-length cDNA of LepROT gene was 396 bp and encoded 131 amino acids. Amino acid sequence analysis revealed LepROT shares 93.74% and 86.39% identity with homologues from other amphibians and mammals respectively, and the LepROT gene was quite conserved among different species. After infection, the relative expression levels of LepROT, NF-κB, IKKα and IKKβ mRNA were all significantly upregulated (P < 0.01), but showed a diverse temporal pattern of up-regulation in different tissues. Therefore, it was proposed that the LepROT gene of R. dybowskii might activate the NF-κB signaling pathway to exert anti-infectious effects, thus providing evidence for further extending the biological function of LepROT.

ABSTRACT

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a non-specific inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that is generally accepted to be closely related to intestinal dysbiosis in the host. GI infections contribute a key role in the pathogenesis of IBD; however, although the results of recent clinical studies have revealed an inverse correlation between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and IBD, the exact mechanism underlying the development of IBD remains unclear. H. pylori, as a star microorganism, has been a focus for decades, and recent preclinical and real-world studies have demonstrated that H. pylori not only affects the changes in the gastric microbiota and microenvironment but also influences the intestinal microbiota, indicating a potential correlation with IBD. Detailed analysis revealed that H. pylori infection increased the diversity of the intestinal microbiota, reduced the abundance of Bacteroidetes, augmented the abundance of Firmicutes, and produced short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria such as Akkermansia. All these factors may decrease vulnerability to IBD. Further studies investigating the H. pylori-intestinal microbiota metabolite axis should be performed to understand the mechanism underlying the development of IBD.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship between cumulative fasting blood glucose(cumFPG)exposure and all-cause mortality. Methods:The prospective cohort study included 56 845 subjects of Kailuan Group who participated in physical examinations from 2006 to 2007, 2008 to 2009, and 2010 to 2011 with complete data and a median of 7.77 years of follow up. The end point event was all-cause mortality. The incidence of all-cause mortality was compared in various groups divided by four quartile of cumFPG. The Cox proportional hazards model and natural spline were used to analyze the effect of cumFPG on all-cause mortality. Results:During the average(7.77±1.05)years of follow-up, the incidence density of all-cause mortality was on the rise with the increase of cumFPG(4.93, 5.87, 8.48, and 14.02 per 1 000 person-years), with statistically significant difference by Log- rank test( P<0.001). Cox proportional hazards model showed that after adjusting for potential confounding factors(age, sex, body mass index, hypertension, baseline fasting plasma glucose), the HR value(95% CI)of all-cause mortality in the fourth quartile group was 1.28(1.15-1.42)compared to the first quartile. When cumFPG increased every standard deviation, the risk of all-cause mortality increased by 17%. Natural spline analysis exhibited a similar J curve relationship between cumFPG and all-cause mortality. Conclusion:High cumFPG is a risk factor of all-cause mortality.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the value of ultrasound-based radiomics combined with clinical parameters in predicting lymph node metastasis of endometrial cancer. Methods:The clinical data and preoperative ultrasound images of 255 patients with endometrial cancer diagnosed after operation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2017 to February 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. The boundary of the tumor, that is, the region of interest(ROI), was determined manually by ITK-SNAP software, and the features were extracted from it. Through random sampling, the data were divided into training group used to build the model and verification group used to evaluate the reliability of the model at the proportion of 7∶3.In the training group, the spearman correlation coefficient was used as the threshold of 0.95 to remove the features with high correlation. The importance of the features were ranked by the decision tree model, the features of the top 6% importance were selected to establish a logical regression model, and then calculated the Radiomics score of each patient. On the basis of logical regression analysis, a comprehensive prediction model was established, the line diagram was drawn, and the prediction effect was evaluated by the analysis of the area under the subject working curve (AUC), calibration curve and the decision curve. Results:After dimensionality reduction and logical regression analysis, 20 features and 2 clinical parameters (CA125, CA153) were obtained to build the model. The AUC of training group and verification group in radiomics model and comprehensive prediction model were 0.81, 0.78 and 0.89, 0.85, respectively. The decision curve analysis showed that both of them had good clinical utility. Conclusions:The ultrasound-based radiomics model and the comprehensive model combined with relevant clinical parameters are effective in predicting lymph node metastasis of endometrial cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate left ventricular myocardial work in pregnant women with impaired glucose tolerance(IGT) in the third trimester by the non-invasive technical parameters of pressure-strain loop(PSL), and to explore its predictive value of risk of perinatal adverse events. Methods:From October 2020 to October 2021, 70 pregnant women of IGT and 50 healthy pregnant women in Henan Provincial People′s Hospital were included, and a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) was performed at 24-28 weeks. Then their routine obstetric examinations were followed up until one week postpartum and perinatal adverse events were recorded, such as diabetic mother-infant syndrome, macrosomia, et al. After 36 weeks of pregnancy before childbirth, echocardiography was performed and dynamic images of 3-5 cardiac cycles at apical four-chamber view, three-chamber view, and two-chamber view were recorded.Simultaneously, pressure-strain loop(PSL) curve, left ventricular global longitudinal strain(GLS), global work index(GWI), global constructive work(GCW), global wasted work(GWW) and global work efficiency(GWE) were calculated through the EchoPAC 203 workstation. Then the differences of all parameters were compared between the two groups. And a prediction model for perinatal adverse events was built by binary logistic regression, and ROC curve was used to analyze the prediction efficiencies of the prediction model and each independent influencing factor. Results:Compared with the control group, the absolute values of GLS, GWI and GCW of IGT group were lower(all P<0.05). The incidence of perinatal adverse events of the IGT group, including adverse pregnancy outcomes and neonatal adverse outcomes, was higher than that in the control group( P<0.05). According to logistic regression model, the GLS, GWI, GCW and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose(2-hPBG) were independent influencing factors for perinatal complications(all P<0.05); in addition, ROC curve anaysis showed the area under the curve of the predictive model based on the influencing factors, GLS, GWI, GWE and 2-h PBG were respectively 0.903, 0.820, 0.879, 0.854 and 0.771. Conclusions:The parameters of PSL can quantitatively assess the changes of left ventricular myocardial work in pregnancy women with IGT; and the incidence of perinatal adverse events in IGT pregnant women is higher; GWI, GCW, the models constructed based on GLS, GWI, GCW and 2-hPBG have potential values in predicting the risk of perinatal adverse events.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To establish a hydride generation atomic fluorescence method using ammonium persulfate as the digestion reagent for determination of arsenic in urine (hereinafter referred to as this method). Methods:The collected urine samples with ammonium persulfate were heated and digested on the tubular electric heating automatic control constant temperature digester (60 holes), with 5% hydrochloric acid solution as reaction medium and current carrier and 1.5% potassium borohydride solution as reducing agent. Arsenic content was determined with a four-channel atomic fluorescence spectrometer. The arsenic standard solution of 0 - 10 μg/L was prepared to determine the standard curve of this method, and the method was evaluated from the detection limit, linear range, correlation coefficient, precision, standard addition recovery experiment, and urine arsenic quality control sample detection. The standard method "Determination of Arsenic in Urine by Hydride Generation Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry" (WS/T 474-2015, referred to as the standard method) was used for comparison experiments. Results:When the sampling volume was 1 ml, the detection limit of this method (digest with 1 ml 1.5 mol/L ammonium persulfate) was 0.03 μg/L. In the range of arsenic content from 0 - 10 μg/L, the linear relationship between arsenic content and fluorescence intensity was good, and the correlation coefficients ( r) were all 0.999 9. The relative standard deviations( RSD) of the three replicates of urine samples with different concentrations were 1.00%, 0.89% and 0.49%, respectively. Urine arsenic quality control samples were tested, and the test results were all within the range of public values; the overall average recovery was 102.29%, and the recovery range was 92.10% - 108.15%. Compared with the standard method in the determination results of 20 urine samples, the difference was not statistically significant ( t = - 0.40, P > 0.05). Conclusions:The hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry using ammonium persulfate as digestion reagent for the determination of arsenic in urine has the advantages of low detection limit, good precision, high accuracy, small amount of sampling and digestion reagent, simple operation, and less harmful gas generation in sample pretreatment. It is suitable for rapid determination of arsenic in urine in large quantities.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the characteristics of macular telangiectasia (MacTel) in multi-color and multi-mode fundus images. Methods:An abservational case series study was conducted.Sixteen eyes of 12 patients diagnosed with MacTel by fluorescein fundus angiography (FFA) from January to November 2019 in Shandong Eye Hospital were analyzed. There were 8 cases (8 eyes) with MacTel type Ⅰ, among which 4 cases were male and 4 cases were female, with an average age of (62.3±12.5) years. The other 4 cases (8 eyes) had MacTel type Ⅱ, all of which were female, with an average age of (58.7±10.5) years.Best corrected visual acuity, slit lamp microscopy, color fundus photography, multicolor scanning laser imaging, FFA, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) were carried out in all the patients. This study adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of Shandong Eye Institute (No.2019S003).Results:In color fundus images of MacTel type Ⅰ eyes, annular macular exudation with macular edema occurred in 6 eyes, macular edema without hard exudates in 1 eye, and hard macular exudates without macular edema in 1 eye. However, the transparency of retina in temporal fovea in MacTel type Ⅱ eyes decreased, showing a gray color. In multi-color fundus images of MacTel type Ⅰ eyes, punctate granular yellow macular exudation and yellow-green macular edema were observed, which were clearer than those in color fundus images.Punctate exudation was seen in both the blue and green reflectance images, which was clearest in green reflectance image, followed by blue reflectance image and then the infrared reflectance image. In OCT images of MacTel type Ⅰ eyes, cystoid edema of inner retina or uneven reflection signal of outer plexiform retina were observed.Loss of inner and outer retinal structures and cavities were observable in MacTel type Ⅱ eyes, and outer retinal atrophy appeared in 2 eyes.In OCTA images, the destruction of superficial and deep capillary plexus in macular area were observed in both MacTel typeⅠand type Ⅱ eyes, and the destruction of deep capillary plexus was more obvious. In addition, more obviously increased vascular space, decreased vessel density, and increased foveal avascular zone were found in MacTel type Ⅱ eyes.In early stage of FFA, delayed capillary filling near fovea was seen in MacTel typeⅠeyes, and dilated temporal vessels in fovea, some of which showed tumor-like dilation, and the limited tumor-like dilation was enhanced in the later stage.Different degrees of dilated parafoveal blood vessels in the early stage, and the capillary in the temporal side of the macula showing diffuse strong fluorescence in the late stage of FFA was observed in MacTel type Ⅱ eyes.Conclusions:Multi-color scanning laser imaging can be used to observe the morphological characteristics of MacTel, and the imaging features of different types of MacTel are significantly different.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of inverted Meckel′s diverticulum in children, and to summarize the clinical experience. Methods:Ten children who received surgical treatment in Beijing Children′s Hospital, Capital Medical University from October 2018 to October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The children were diagnosed with Mecker′s diverticulum.Their data were complete and their fo-llow-up information was available. The clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis were summarized. There were 6 males and 4 females, whose age of onset ranged from 5 months to 12 years and 5 months. The clinical manifestations were abdominal pain in 8 cases, crying in 2 cases and bloody stool in 3 cases.B-ultrasound showed suspected diseases secondary to inverted Meckel′s diverticulum, including small intestinal intussusception in 6 cases and back junction type intussusception in 4 cases. One case of small intestinal intussusception was misdiagnosed after laparoscopic exploration in other hospitals and suffered from recurrent intussusception. All patients underwent segmental bowel resection. Results:Of the 10 children, 8 cases received laparoscopic exploration and 2 cases underwent open surgery for secondary intestinal necrosis.Postoperative pathology revealed Meckel′s diverticulum.Ectopic tissue was accessible in 8 cases, including ectopic gastric tissue in 7 cases, and ectopic pancreas in 1 case.During the postoperative follow-up period (1 month-3 years), the patients were generally in good condition with no complications such as intestinal obstruction. Conclusions:Intussusception secondary to inverted Meckel′s diverticulum is rare and difficult to diagnose before operation. The diagnosis should be confirmed by surgical exploration and postoperative pathology. However, careful surgical exploration is required since inverted Meckel′s diverticulum is prone to be misdiagnosed during exploration.

ABSTRACT

Mucus plugs is a feature of fatal asthma, which is the abnormally thick mucus accumulated in the airway of patients. The study of airway mucus plugs in asthmatic patients began 100 years ago.In addition to the manifestation of primary disease, asthma patients with mucus plugs may have acute exacerbation of asthma or poor treatment effect. At this time, we should pay attention to the existence of mucus plugs.Multidetector computed tomography can be used to identify and evaluate mucus plugs. This article briefly describes the generation of airway mucus, and introduces the formation mechanism, clinical characteristics, identification and scoring system of mucus plugs in asthmatic patients, and reviews the differential diagnosis and treatment of mucus plugs.

ABSTRACT

Seaweed is a traditional Chinese medicine homologous to food, in which polysaccharides are responsible for anti-cancer by enhancing immunity, inducing cancer cell apoptosis, inhibiting cancer cell invasion and metastasis or directly scavenging oxidative free radicals that induce cancer cell changes. Among them, regulating immunity and promoting cancer cell apoptosis are intensively studied due to the important role in preventing cancer. Here we reviewed seaweed in the apoptosis-inducing signaling pathways including PI3K/AKT, ROS and JNK and discussed challenges in studying seaweed.
